Earlyish nights and feeling mentally awake call for a bit of reading 📚 I'm loving having @AmazonKindle on my phone. My current go to read on my phone is 'Under one roof' by Ali Hazelwood 😍

Slug & Lettuce Review | Lifestyle Series

19th February 2020 2 Comments

Who doesn’t fancy a lovely meal out at a great bar/ restaurant? I know I do!
One of the places I love to go is The Slug and Lettuce. It’s a lovely atmosphere with great service, wonderful cocktails and a wide selection of food for all types of people.

They have great vegan options and cater for gluten free and vegetarian also.

Service, Staff and time ( Bar service, table service etc.)

Rating out of 10 stars!
 8.5/10

Each time I have been to S&L I have been pleasantly welcomed by staff. I usually go during quieter times and therefore will usually seat myself however I have heard good things about booking tables and am sure I would be helped by staff finding a table should it be busy.

When I have ordered food it has been extremely fast service which is fantastic! They have remained good quality whilst being around 10/15 minutes in total waiting time between ordering and service. Depending on the branch and how busy it is, you may either have table service or have to go to the bar to order. Either way you get served quickly.

Quality for money

Rating out of 10 stars!
 8.5/10

I think the the pricing is fairly good. It is pretty standard for the type of restaurant/bar. The food is good portions and quality and therefore makes up for any pounds extra you will pay than your average pub grub. Sharing platters are great and super affordable also if you fancy snacking with a friend. Oh and how could I forget, the cocktails are 2 for 1 within a certain time frame! It’s a must hehe.

Toilets

Rating out of 10 stars!
 8.5/10

The toilets usually are in good quality and are checked often however on a weekend they can be left in some sticky situations. The last time I went to a branch in the city centre, a friend of mine said there was sick in the mens that looked like it had been left from the night before. It happens and I’m sure it was just one of those things. I have always experienced clean toilets.

Decor and atmosphere

Rating out of 10 stars!
 9/10

Are you into getting a great ‘out out’ selfie? If so, this is your place! It’s beautiful floral decor is enchanting and makes your experience there even better. There is a range of different seating areas such as the raised large table area, booths in some branch stores, bird cage booths and tall table and seating near the bar. They have areas for all! I personally love the booths as they make me feel cosy and comfortable in a nice little nook.

All branches I have been to have been super spacious and great for sit down meals or casual drinking. There really is a place for everyone! The decor is inviting, vibrant and fresh making you feel uplifted during your visit with friends, family or for a working lunch date with yourself. The seats are comfortable and are fun to sit on as there are so many beautiful variations at different tables.

Accessibility and any limitations

Rating out of 10 stars!
 9.5/10

Both branches I have been to have been fully accessible for those with limited mobility. The entrance is with no stairs and the toilets are downstairs also. In some branches there are main toilets upstairs but have the disabled on ground floor.
This may be an odd point but taking it back to before, the fact they have different kinds of chairs and tables really helps those who struggle socially. When I go out, my anxiety makes me feel more comfortable in corners or near the wall and this place really does help me feel content.

Hygiene from outer perspective

Rating out of 10 stars!
 8/10

The hygiene standards are always met however I have noticed they struggle to clear tables in a timely manner and it can be quite uncomfortable to find your perfect seat and then find it’s messy with crumbs and spilt drinks on. I believe it’s due to the place being so big and there sometimes being limited staff in the day, however I do feel they should be on the ball with clearing a table once they have left.

Location

Rating out of 10 stars!
 9/10

There are multiple locations for this bar as it’s a wonderful, popular brand! From experience they are usually based within town centres as they are fantastic for night life. Both locations I have been to have been in towns and they are both situated well making the atmosphere grand.

Variety for allergy and dietary requirements

Rating out of 10 stars!
 10/10

There is a reason why S&L are my go to bar and restaurant. It’s because of the variety of foods for every type of person. They do gluten free, veggie, vegan and even guilt free dishes and options. As the years have gone by I have had a range of different starters, mains and desserts and have thoroughly enjoyed them all.

Being vegan, it can be hard to find somewhere that has quality food and a good range to choose from. S&L have done amazingly when selecting unique vegan and veggie dishes and even made a big deal of 2020 Veganuary! During my visit in January I tried a new dish and it was gorgeous.

I have been to S&L with my meat eating friends, veggie friends and all kinds and have received some really good feedback on their options too. It’s a great place to go with a group of friends with different dietary needs and lifestyles.

Food & Drink

Rating out of 10 stars!
 9/10

The food and drink is super! Although a little on the pricey side, as mentioned before, it is worth it. The portions are good, the food is tasty and the service is good. The cocktails are two for one during certain times and it makes it a great place to go during your nights out with friends. The cocktails are really lovely; They look great and taste great and there is a huge range to choose from. If you fancy a good pornstar martini or strawberry pornstar martini, you could chip in with your group of friends and get the Pornstar tree  which you will see below in the images! They look great and are fabulous for a celebratory night out.

Vegan chilli!
Sweet potato fries
Vegan cheese and onion chutney tart with bacon flavour crust and a potato and quinoa salad.
Potato chips
Chicken sharer platter.
Thai vegetable curry with white rice and a slice of lime.
Prosecco sponge bites.
A feast for friends!
Martini tree.

Child friendly?

Rating out of 10 stars!
 7/10

S&L are child friendly and the decor makes it a very intriguing place for little ones. They have a kids menu and offer high chairs too to make your breakfast, lunch or dinner perfect for you and your little ones.

Overall and would I go back?

Rating out of 10 stars!
 9/10

I 100% would and do continue to go back time and time again. I love the food and cocktails and overall atmosphere and will always consider this for any time or day and even special occasions! I would love to try the cocktail masterclass soon and review it here.

Has this review helped you decide if you'd fancy trying S&L? If so, let me know what you think!
Stay wonderful!

Here is my unboxing of my first Pause subscription box in April!

April was all about reading and finding calm through reading. In order to embrace pausing though reading, this month included a task where we make Pompom book marks.

With green yarn it was lovely to follow the guide and find calm whilst making a little pompom bookmark.
