For this months Blogosphere Community Challenge we have been challenged to create a magazine cover mood board and I must say I have had so so soooo much fun creating mine. It may seem bizarre at first and maybe second glance but it is a perfect representation of my weird and wonderful ways!
It’s unique and most certainly clashy but with intention with the pastels on the dark colours. It is almost a dark twist on a fairytale I suppose with the addition of some autumn leaves, Autumnal colours and the odd pumpkin.
My Mood board deconstructed
Pastel Clash
My idea for the ‘Cover shoot’ was to create a pastel and dark clashed image. I want elegance, nature and hints of pastel and gothic vibes. My original idea was to either have a beautiful gown in black and to be lying or standing amongst pastel coloured background and scenery or the opposite way round with a dark scenery set background with a beautiful pastel pink gown/outfit. This is why I have included the images by Alexandra Cameron with the gorgeous fairytale style models within a dark, beautiful scene as well as the colour swatch scenery displaying the very dark tree and bench against a very light misty park setting.
Autumn meets fairytale
I have always loved Disney, fairytales and whimsical things. Then again, doesn’t everyone at some point in their life? I am obsessed with the new adaptations of the old tales with the likes of Maleficent and Alice in wonderland. They carry a dark feel alongside the generic fairytale feel and I love it.
I wanted to bring my love of Autumn and Halloween to the shoot alongside my love of pastel colours such as my website aesthetic of pale pastel pink! I love the idea of a pastel Autumnal Halloween shoot with a beautiful gown perfectly clashing with an opposite colour background!
I am a lover of all colours and I suppose people find it bizarre that my colour palette consists of some of the darkest and lightest of colours. I guess it’s like a raven next to a candy floss stand! That’s me summed up really haha!
I love Halloween and horror and so I wanted to incorporate my love of that into the shoot. Helena Bonham Carter is a huge idol of mine with fashion. She is the fairytale horror princess and she just rocks it!
Powerful
I have always wanted my blog and channels to inspire others to feel empowered, happy and positive. I love spreading body positivity and stand as a proud feminist too, embracing power both physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually of women as well as all. I believe we all have power in our voices and we should all be heard.
My main issue in life has been self doubt and so I wanted to add power into this mood board to show I am strong willed and although being small in stature can rise to the biggest challenges. I have overcome so much in my short life so far and can see many more hurdles ahead, including my current battles and so seeing amazing strong female figures in society helps me realise my power and I want to be one of those people!
I chose figures like Luna Lovegood, Rey from Star Wars, Maleficent, Helena Bonham Carter and Sabrina spellman. I chose these because they embody power whilst being unique and conventionally different. Life is hard for them but they battle through and use their differences as a weapon of power to rise above and inspire women like me and all kinds of people.
Luna Lovegood made me feel heard. Having high functioning Autism means I often feel rather different. I have quirks, I’ve always been a little bit unique and my weird ways always left me feeling not good enough after being severely bullied. Luna taught me to embrace my weird and use that as my power. She taught me to not care about what others thought and that I am wonderful just the way I am.
Rey, Maleficent and Sabrina Spellman are all unique, somewhat unconventional and are all so powerful! They stand out in society and in their own little fictional worlds and they inspire so many people to Stand strong in what they believe in. They are all figures I admire. They are ferocious, bold, different and face their own battles constantly but always find ways to rise again.
Helena Bonham Carter is a magnificent being. She was married to one of my favourite artists and directors, Tim Burton as well as starring in so many of his films. She is the perfect Actress to bring horror, class, elegance and whimsical feels to films. She is a fantastic actress and is iconic for her weird and wonderful fashion which is why she is a huge idol of mine. Her power is that she is unconventional and yet has become one of our most beloved Actresses! She embraces her weird and it is why she is where she is today.
Sorry for such a long post! I have had so much fun during this challenge. It’s opened my eyes and made me think about things I would never have before. Thanks Blogosphere!
I’d love to know what you think in the comments.
Stay wonderful!
