So, we are already this far into Blogtober? How insanely quick has October gone? I for one am so excited about this post. It is about books which it right up my street, especially when mixing it with Autumn and Halloween. So today is all about our favourite books to read throughout Autumn. I personally enjoy reading all year round but nothing beats a night in getting all cosy with candles, fairy lights, a nice blanket and a favourite book, which in my case is usually a horror novel! So here are some of my favourite reads during Autumn or ones I have on the shelf that have sparked interest this Autumn.
So as you can see here I have quite the bookshelf at the top of my stairs! I have selected the horror and spooky themed ones that fit the Autumn and Halloween theme and permanently have them there so I know where to go for my next read. My favourite theme by far is horror so my collection looks more like this than not. Some of these books were actually gifts for my birthday but I have loved heading out to book shops and even sneaking to the book shelves in supermarkets to grab some more even though I have almost a full shelf of books to read already. I think we’re all in the same position or have been at some point! There is something so whimsical and beautiful about buying new books.
'Sleeping beauties'
So as written in a previous post I have some current reads! I tend to read around two books at once as my active mind is often too active for just one genre. This means I will usually read a horror or fiction alongside a self help or lifestyle book like The Anna Edit or Life Changing magic of tidying. My current main read is Stephen King and Owen king’s ‘Sleeping beauties’ and my goodness is it good! It has inspired me so much with the book I am writing and really has taken me on a journey during lockdown. What a wonderful companion to my life it has been. I have been able to travel universes whilst having to stay home!
'The Murders in the rue morgue and other tales'
I haven’t yet started this but I specifically picked this one during a trip to my local lovely Waterstones! I saw it sitting there peering at me from the shelf. I just knew I had to buy it. It is just like one of my favourite books to read ‘The brothers grimm – Selected tales’. It is made up of lots of little tales to fill your world with wonder and spookiness!
My Autumn buys!
During my trip to Waterstones I also bought these two alongside my Edgar Allen Poe one. There is a legendary oldie ‘The Silence of the lambs’ and one I’ve never heard of before ‘Imperfect women’. I have actually never seen the Silence of the lambs film so cannot wait to read this one. After reading lots of blurbs I came across ‘imperfect women’ and really enjoyed the intriguing plot so couldn’t resist. I was super happy with this little book haul and cannot wait to do full reviews on them.
As I talk about using books as Autumn home decor you will often find many books dotted around my home. They are a beautiful reminder of mystery and fantasy during my every day life, especially during lockdown and isolation. They remind me that we can travel through worlds even when we are limited to our four walls and gardens. These were two others I picked up during a trip to my local supermarket. They are again both horrors but add wonder to my already large collection!
Last years reads!
So these were last years reads! You can find all about them from last years Scriptober post.
Thank you so much for reading! What are your favourite books to read during this time of the year? Find me in a cosy room with candles, fairy lights and a good book.
Stay wonderful!
