For day four of #BlogtoberWithBOA here is my Autumn home decor. I absolutely love the warm colours, faux pumpkins, acorns, pine cones, sunflowers and leaves. Creating wreaths, garlands and getting all of the fairy lights back on is the ultimate way to create a cosy Autumn atmosphere! Below are some ideas of Autumn home decor, followed by this years decor in my home.
Home, for many is where the heart is and I like to take that statement seriously and create a safe and lovely place to be, especially during the colder months as we will spend the majority of our time inside cosied up. So here are the ways I have made the season come to life inside the walls of my home!
Candles and candle holders
Candles are one of my favourite things ever! They scream cosyness and warmth which is just super Autumnal. I love getting some Autumn scented candles and wax melts but also love finding spooky tea light holders and Halloween themed ones like the ones in the pictures. My favourite has to be the skull with red candle wax inside. When you light it, the wax melts inside and pours out like red blood. It’s super effective!
Real and faux pumpkins
Nothing is more Autumn than pumpkins! That’s why each year I collect lots. My favourite thing to do during Autumn is going on a hunt for pumpkins and squash of all shapes, sizes and colours. I have some glittery faux ones and am adding to the collection as the years go by. I find they are perfect for decoration anywhere around the home from the odd one in the bathroom to even adding some faux ones to a wreath or garland. I absolutely love using pumpkins on my staircase too surrounded by leaves and some electronic candles and fairy lights. I genuinely am pumpkin obsessed!
Autumn Leaves
Since my blog is named after the season Autumn, I have an unusual amount of faux leaves so when the season finally comes around I know I am well stocked up! Although Faux leaves do the trick, there is nothing better than going leaf collecting in your local park for some beautifully coloured ones. If I find some good ones, I come home, wash them and then dry them out. They are a great way to bring the Autumn feel inside by popping them in your home on your mantle piece, near your windows or even at the base of your fireplace or on your stairs. It is a natural decoration that costs nothing!
Fairy lights
Who doesn’t love a good set of fairy lights? I have way more than I need and will probably buy loads more! They are the perfect Autumn decoration in my opinion. They give off a beautiful glow, can transform a room and make you feel so comfy and cosy. You really can put fairy lights anywhere in the home, from on your window ledge, on the mirror in your bathroom to all around your bed frame to provide a warm glow as you lay in bed reading to get some sleep.
I have two sets of big waterfall fairy lights. One set in my bedroom spread across both of my windows and one set downstairs on the backdrop at the back of the lounge with our little fall decor spot! Putting them on at night really does transform the rooms and makes us feel so cosy and Autumnal.
Autumn and Horror books
Being a book worm I am often looking at books in my home as decoration as well as a resource and element of fun and entertainment. I love reading but also love collecting books for my bookshelf! I have small piles of books on various shelves and units throughout my home; In the kitchen I have recipe books as well as a small pile on our feature shelf. In my lounge I have a small lot of positivity books on my unit with my fall display. I have a huge bookshelf on the top of the stairs with a trail of faux autumn leaves and fairy lights and then in my room I have a few piles dotted around on various shelves! I have picked out some dark looking covers and Horror themed books to give that extra bit of Autumn feel throughout my room. They are the perfect way to add a little horror and darkness to your house throughout Autumn and Halloween! I even have started using them for flatlay photography.
Garland and wreaths
Some crafting fun during Autumn can be to create your own wreaths and garlands! I took advantage of that and made my own Autumnal wreath a few years ago and have kept it each year round. I also have premade garlands around my home this year, one of which is on my TV stand in my bedroom. It is gorgeous and really spices up the room. I have one fully black gothic garland on my fireplace in the lounge and to add the extra Autumn feel to it I have added in some faux leaves, berries, fairy lights and some homemade dried spiced oranges and apples and it looks divine! Of an evening it transforms the room into an Autumn paradise and I love it so much!
Pot Pouri
Pot pouri is a great way to bring some Autumn vibes to your home in any room of the house. It can do wonders for decoration as well as filling the home with glorious Autumn scents. I love creating some homemade pot pouri by making my own Autumn scented dried apples and oranges with some cinnamon sticks popped in their too! This year I have decided to put a twist on pot pouri and instead of putting it in a bowl, I’m just scattering some of it around my home on mantle pieces and such. It looks beautiful!
