When it comes to men under the age of 45, suicide is the leading cause of mortality. Disease, tragic events, none of these things can stop them from being themselves. That is a truly appalling figure to hear. What makes it even worse is that, in many situations, suicide is preventable if we were aware of the warning signs and addressed the mental health and well-being of males in our communities and society. If you live with a man, whether they are your partner, parent, brother, or housemate, there are signs to look out for in terms of their mental health.Β 

However, while the issue of mental health is a major concern at the present, there are steps that any man can take to improve his mental health and welfare in order to avoid becoming another tragic number.

Mindfulness

When it comes to improving their mental health, mindfulness is one of the most important practices anyone can adopt. It is a method of controlling and regulating what you put your attention on. Instead of concentrating on the things that are not going so well in your life, you can devote your attention to the things that are going well, which can be beneficial to your mental health. In order to accomplish this, you may either practice particular mindfulness every day in the form of meditation or you can integrate mindfulness into your daily life by applying the principle to any difficulties or situations that arise. It is not just something that the man in your life can do, but anyone. Why not look at doing it together?

Put an end to harmful habits

A number of harmful behaviors are practiced by some people who suffer from mental health disorders, and these behaviors are frequently utilized as a coping method. However, while they may appear to be effective in the short term, they will only serve to exacerbate the situation in the long run, and this is even before considering the negative consequences on your physical health. If you believe you have a problem with drugs or alcohol, treatment programs may be able to assist you in conquering your problem and getting back on track.

Consume nutritious food

It is too easy to grab a tray of processed food and toss it into the microwave after work, or even worse, to eat delivery every night, because our lives are so hectic. These are high in sodium and processed sugar, and they are deficient in the nutrients that our bodies require. Preparing simple and nutritious meals over the weekend is a good idea if you want to achieve your daily goal of five servings of fruits and vegetables. Get some decent sleep

The majority of us have extremely poor sleep hygiene. That includes watching television or using electronic devices such as cell phones and tablets right up to the moment we go to sleep, working in our bedrooms, staying up too late, and consuming excessive amounts of caffeine too close to bedtime.Β  Put in place an effective sleep routine for several weeks, including turning off the television and phone an hour before bed, refraining from drinking coffee after lunch, and going to bed at the same time every night, and waking up at the same time every morning. You will quickly notice that both yours and his sleep quality has improved and that everyone’s mental health has improved as well.
