Yes Mothers day is a lovely celebration but let’s face it, can many mums just relax with their feet up whilst everything around them is taken care of? Maybe not. Not everything will be serene and peaceful for that one day but I can tell you some ways you can wind down, relax and catch some chill when the kids are in bed and you have some ‘Me time’, even if it’s just for a few hours before the middle of the night baby Wails..This goes for Foster mums, adoptive parents or even those who have taken on your families children. You’re amazing and deserve a relax, especially on this day dedicated to you!
Feel good films & shows – When you can eventually kick off your shoes and get cosy, maybe you can gather up your favourite feel good films, make or order in some good food and have a cheeky tipple or your fave warm or cold beverage. Here are some of my feel good film recommendations for tired and in need mammas to drown out and chill with:
- Bridesmaids
- Bride Wars
- Friends with benefits
- Always be my maybe
- That Awkward moment
- New Girl
- Friends
- Your favourite Youtubers!
Pamper and mini home spa evening – If you’re a mama who’s doing it for herself then crack open a bottle or mug of your favourite beverage and retreat to the bathroom. I’m talking spa headbands, your favourite face mask, cucumbers for your eyes (and maybe a light snack), your best moisturiser and skincare and your most cosy PJ’s. Gather it all up and have it ready for you when you’re finished in your bath or shower. Use your favourite bath bomb, oils or gels or your glorious pick of shower gel and hair care. If you’re the reading type like me, pick out your current read or start a new light hearted one and have a little calming session in the bath if that’s how you role. If you’re not a reader, maybe change it up and listen to some music or a podcast that makes you feel happy and upbeat. We’re focusing on what we want, what makes us happy and how we can have the best ‘me time’ session there is! Oh and how could I forget? Get some candles on if that’s what sets your mood too.
Party for one or you and your partner – With lockdown still in place here in the UK, we cannot exactly go out for a lovely meal or night out so let’s bring that fun to our home. Get on your best dress and if you can be bothered, your favourite makeup. Feel good in yourself, pop the prosecco out or your fave drink and get the music going. Have a solo dance or with your partner or those you live with and let your hair down. Play your favourite songs and have a mini disco so you can feel buzzing. Maybe steer clear of too much alcohol as remember, being a mum will continue the next day hehe. Just kidding, be free as a bird as long as you’re safe!

Internet shopping – Yes I said it! Treat yourself to some new things whether that be books, beauty, skincare, flowers, homeware, clothes or anything that you love. If you can do it safely in terms of money then you deserve it. The internet is fun of amazing companies whether that be Etsy, Amazon or just sites and apps full of goodies, have a good look and see what tickles your fancy.
Pinterest time – One thing I love doing when I feel a little shitty or just when the mood feels right is having a good look at the wonders of Pinterest. I’m talking home decor, fashion, design inspo, books, blogs, cute animals, crafting, illustrations or just some foodie images. It always gets me in a good mood and makes me inspired. So if you enjoy Pinterest, definitely use it to your advantage during a relaxing evening.
Thank you for reading! Happy mothers day and I hope you can find some peace and chill. You deserve it. Let me know if you agree with some of these feel good things to do.
Stay wonderful!
