Myself and LoveCrafts have teamed up to create a lovely load of self care by making a gorgeous scarf! What better than to sit in bed with your favourite people and do some crafting. Self care for me is so important and I like to leave an impression on all in my household. Everyone should practise self care especially in this crazy time of work non stop.
We all need some time out to ourselves, away from social gatherings, away from the screen, away from work and just purely to satisfy our needs both mentally, physically and emotionally. I like to practise some down time by relaxing watching a film or show with my mum and partner whilst mum gives me a massage and plays with my hair as we chat about things. It is just perfection to not have to worry about what we look like, what we wear and meeting expectations from others etc. There is nothing like just being satisfied with your cosy home clothes on, hair up, skincare at the ready and endless cups of hot chocolate, coffee, tea and green tea, or even a glass of bubbly!
How do you practise self care?
Keeping in mind Covid-19
With this pandemic, current lock down and self isolation in the UK, we need to really think about our own personal needs and how we can look after ourselves in and out of home as well as the safety of others who are vulnerable.
One thing I wanted to discuss is that since we are now having to isolate and be on lock down at home, maybe we can promote self care more-so. In my case I can most certainly say that macrame and knitting has really helped me wind down and take my mind off things. With things becoming more severe with this virus, we need to consider having to stay home which means mothers day was a quiet one in and any future plans will have to be rearranged or compromised. For us here in the BurstsOfAutumn residence we are planning to enjoy some macrame and knitting with what LoveCrafts have provided us for everyday and anyway! To be honest, I can’t think of anything better. Maybe if we add a Takeout to the mix.
Self isolating will mean having lots of time on your hands within the walls of your home so I would get thinking of ways to practise self care, stocking up on things for your hobbies and creative needs and thinking ahead as things are moving at light speed at the moment with more and more countries following.
Never tried crafting, knitting or macrame?
Whether you do crafting for an hour a day, during rainy days, during your evenings in or more often, it is a great way to relax whilst making something fun and having an end product to show your hard work. I know for me anything I can work on whilst relaxing is the ultimate thing to do. I love editing pictures whilst lying in bed and sipping my favourite beverage. I love knitting or crafting in the lounge, in my bedroom or even taking it out and doing bits during breaks throughout the day. I love painting, drawing and basically anything else creative. For me, doing creative things gives me a purpose; Not only do I have fun carrying out these tasks, but they have an element of calm and happiness and remind me that at the end of the task I have worked on something that turns out beautiful. It’s amazing to see a product at the end and realise you have created it. Like baking for instance! What better than after a day of baking, to take your cake out of the oven, let it cool, decorate, plate up and dig in knowing you have created it?
Now of course knitting, sewing, crotchet, macrame and all else may not be for certain people but I like to live by the saying ‘don’t knock it until you try it’ as I believe we shouldn’t necessarily judge something by face value until we have done it. Yes knitting can be frustrating to some, but when you get the hang of it, it actually becomes super chilled out and fun! Especially if you have cats who love to play with the needles and yarn. Trust me, hours of fun watching the little beasts intrigued!
"Crafting just isn't a guys thing"...
To anyone who says or thinks this, I think you’re sooooo wrong! Not trying to start an argument but in todays society, gender association with tasks, jobs and hobbies shouldn’t be a thing. I have seen some of the best knitted, crotchet and crafting work done by young, middle aged and elderly men of this generation! I remember being in awe of these scarves and jumpers that this group of men created on a Christmas show last year. It was insane how incredible these end products were and I wished I could be that great. I admired them so much as I know how much work would’ve gone into them. So next time you think it’s just not a guy thing, maybe pick up some needles, yarn and give it a go. It may be your new fave hobby!
Some people look at me and think simple girl, loves makeup and clothes when actually I used to be the front woman of a metal band, I used to play football and rugby in school and I love gaming!
So, this has been my little journey with Lovecrafts and I hope to have many more in the future. I really love crafting and have fallen in love with my new scarf. I won’t lie, I’m not sure I have used the pattern correctly and due to it being recycled yarn it was much much tougher than other yarns which means it has taken me A LOT longer than the average time to complete the scarf as I had to do some of it each night. It doesn’t mean it’s not as fabulous though, I promise and I really would like to delve into the world of knitting and macrame to try other yarns and knitting needles. I had to use my 6ml needles as they were the only ones I could find after misplacing my other old yarn and needles which made it much harder also. They sent me the light pink recycled yarn and a super helpful PDF of instructions on casting on and off and then the patterns for the product. It was lovely and made the process so joyous with no worry at all being new to it. The customer service of Sarah was just the best!
I hope to embark on many more adventures with lovecrafts as I’ve thoroughly enjoyed this one and really think they are a fantastic company.
