So, to be quite honest, when I was first recommended Huel by my friend, I was dubious. I’m not the type to follow diets or actively promote weight loss due to my body positivity influence on my socials as well as Eating disorder recovery due to my past with eating disorders and body image disorder. When my friend then explained how he uses it, I thought I’d give it a go!
My plan is and was to use these shakes before the gym and to help me get in nutrients in case I skip meals on busy days and when my appetite isn’t there as I have a habit of skipping meals subconsciously when I have high anxiety levels. I then end up with a huge lack of energy, especially now that I am going to the gym (Which I love). So yes, here is my review of my first Huel package! You can also watch my video review on my Youtube channel.
My first Huel!
So, for my first huel order I got money off and extra’s which was a nice surprise. When you first order, you get a shaker, two scoops and a shirt. You can then use your recommended persons name and get £10 off whilst also giving them that money off their next order too. What could go wrong? Spread kindness!
So below is my first order. One thing to beware of… The box will be mighty heavy! My mum found out the hard way when the parcel arrived and she hadn’t anticipated the weight.. I then realised too when I grabbed it off her. I think you may need to hit the gym before even attempting to lift it haha. But seriously, it’s well worth the money, how big the Huel powder packs are. I definitely did not think they were that big or hefty.
So, for my first order I went for the chocolate powder and the salted caramel powder as my main two. I then chose the flavour booster sample pack since I had money off, I thought I’d give them a go. The taster pack has many flavours in it, from pumpkin spiced to mint chocolate. They are a great way to add extra flavour to your shakes!
How to and first thoughts
So, me being the anxious creature I am, I was constantly thinking ‘Do it right, don’t mess it up’ but then I come to realise that it’s actually quite simple. One or two scoops of your powder added to the correct amount of water. I use 500ml of water (Measurements on the shaker bottle) and add one to two scoops to it and stir with a fork. I then pop the lid on and give it a good shake for over 10 seconds until it’s fully mixed.
I found that no matter how hard I shake it, it still comes out a little lumpy, so I’m working to see what else I can do to make it different. If I’m honest, it still tastes good and the lumpiness doesn’t put me off. It’s still quite nice. I suppose it depends what you like and how you like it. Make it work for you!
I have found that my favourite way to enjoy Huel now is to make it of an evening before bed and leave it in the fridge overnight. It mixes better and becomes less lumpy and then it’s nice and cool and ready for the morning without fuss!
You can use my name as your £10 off code! ‘Louna Walker’ – Let’s be kind and help each other out. Whether you have had protein shakes or not before, this one is certainly worth the try. It’s vegan, cruelty free and plant based and is packed full of nutrition and goodness. You can check their website for more information on their products, flavours, deals and what they put inside of their shakes to make them the best for you!
They also do hot meals too which look divine!
Thank you for reading! I hope you feel inspired to try new things and if you fancy giving it a go, you can get £10 off.
Stay wonderful!
