So, I’m not yet engaged but have always been one who has a passion for planning events and what event is bigger than your wedding day? Am I right? So I wanted to share some tips on how to avoid stress when planning the best day of your life. I’m maid of honour to my best friend and will begin planning her big day soon so this has been on my mind constantly.
Weddings are great but they’re also incredibly stressful, even more so when you’re the one doing the planning and getting married. No one plans on getting married more than once, so it’s understandable that you want to get this right and make sure that everything is as perfect as you’ve always dreamt of it being.
But how can you keep stress out of the equation? There are lots of things to consider and some changes you might want to take to your approach that will reduce your stress levels later on down the line. That’s what we’re going to talk about right now, so read on to find out more.
Do some contingency planning
First of all, you should make sure that you have some contingency plans in place. After all, we all know that things can go wrong sometimes and it can be stressful having that thought in your mind. However, you won’t have to be consumed by those kinds of thoughts if you have a backup plan that you can turn to in the event of something going wrong. You’ll probably never need to use those plans, but it’s nice to have them anyway. They’ll put your mind at rest and if you do ever need a backup plan, they’ll be there for you. Maybe write a list of any alternatives you have in case the original plans break down in some way.
Stop comparing your wedding to others
Next, you should stop the habit of comparing your wedding to other weddings out there. After all, your wedding is unique and that’s the way it should be. If your wedding was the same as someone else’s it wouldn’t be specific to you and your partner. And there’s always going to be someone out there who has a wedding that you wish you had but the most important thing is you’re spending it with the love of your life and those you love. Nothing can beat that surely. It does you no good to keep comparing your plans to other people’s as we all walk different paths.
Work alongside a wedding planner
Having a good wedding planner in place makes your life so much easier. Why take on all the stress of planning every detail of this wedding when you can simply let someone else do that for you? It’s not necessary to take on all that work because it’ll only stress you out even more and that’s the last thing you need when you’re trying to reduce your wedding stress levels. There are lots of amazing wedding planners out there who’ll be more than capable of helping you.
Get your invitations sent out as early as possible
It can be stressful not knowing how many people are planning on coming to your wedding, and that’s why it’s so important to get the invitations sent out as early as possible. By doing so you can make better plans and ensure everyone is catered for without overplanning. Use Pure invitation wedding invitations and get them out as early as possible. That way, more people will be able to come as well because they won’t have already made other plans.
Prepare for the stress
When you know that the stress is about to hit you, you can at least plan for it a little better. That doesn’t take away from the fact that you’re still going to feel under a huge amount of pressure and stress, but at least you won’t be taken by surprise by it. Have a friend you can call upon and people you can rely on when you start to feel stressed. The people around you matter a lot when it comes to dealing with these feelings, and there’s nothing wrong with leaning on them a little.
Accept all the help you can get
When someone offers to help you in any way regarding your wedding, whether it’s a big piece of help or something small, you should be sure to make the most of it. By doing so, you can make your own life a lot easier and take some of the pressure off yourself. Don’t feel like you need to go it alone or turn down help out of politeness. If someone is offering to help out, it’s because they want to. There’s no need to feel guilt about accepting help from people.
Keep reminding yourself what is most important
You should always keep in mind why you’re doing this and why it all really matters. After all, this isn’t about making sure everything is right and all the details are in place. Sure, you might want to get those things right, but at the end of the day, it’s about you and your partner coming together and making a lifetime commitment to one another, and sharing that with the people who mean the most to you both. That’s what really matters, not the things you’re getting stressed out about.
Occupy your mind when stress creeps in
Sometimes, you can take your mind off the stress of the wedding by doing something you enjoy. That could be going shopping for wedding outfit accessories or simply doing something that’s got nothing to do with the wedding at all. One thing’s for sure; when a wedding issue is causing you stress, the most sensible thing to do is step back and focus your attention on something else instead. Distraction is a great tool against stress. Maybe if you do want to keep it wedding related, how about planning your hen party!
Stop putting pressure on yourself
The main thing that causes you to feel stressed out about your wedding is putting too much pressure on yourself. It’s completely unnecessary to pile the pressure on yourself when you should be enjoying the process and relishing the prospect of getting married to the person you love. Those are the things that matter most. There’s no need to be so harsh on yourself or put yourself under so much pressure.
If you take all the steps we’ve discussed above, you should be able to plan the wedding you’ve always dreamt of without getting overwhelmed by stress. It’s a tough balanced act and you probably won’t get everything right, but it’s worth making the effort now so you don’t feel as stressed out about things later on.
I hope this helps! Maybe these tips could be used in other party planning situations. I’d love to know what you think.
Stay wonderful!

This is such a great post. I remember all the stresses of wedding planning! I think it is super important to remember to not compare your wedding to everyone else’s. Make it exactly how you want it to be and don’t worry what anyone else says about it!

This is so helpful! I wouldn’t have thought of having a back up plan but that definitely makes sense. Il have to remember that. Accepting help is a great point too. Weddings are supposed to be the most magical day, I think it’s important to try to eliminate whatever stress you can. A wedding planner is fantastic, but I think where I live they are very expensive. But I bet they take ALOT of stress off of the bride.. so maybe it would be worth it for plenty. Thanks for sharing this post!
