Every so often giving your home a little refreshment is needed. Things can often get worn and tired, and it can be fun to switch it up a little bit in a place that you spend a lot of your time in. There are plenty of ways that you can do this, so here are four ways to spruce up your home. I promise they although they may seem little, they can make a huge difference!
Declutter it
Decluttering is certainly called for after a year or so at a time. Over this period, we can end up collecting a lot of stuff that can fill our wardrobes, cupboards and drawers. I’m sure we all have a drawer that’s full of random bits! It’s likely that a lot of the stuff that you do have, you no longer need. However, it’s getting around to this decluttering that can often mean you don’t get much opportunity to do it when needed. Set aside an afternoon or a day to spend some time going through your home and, giving it a deep clean. You can spend time in each room giving it a proper declutter of everything and anything that you don’t need anymore. From the sentimental items that you might want to part with to stuff you find in the back of a kitchen drawer, the more you can get rid, the more space you’ll have to play with. Maybe having someone with you who is in a more neutral headspace can help boost you to throw away things you would struggle with alone.
Boost it by giving it more colour
With your home, it’s important to bring in some color to the place. It can certainly make it a lot more exciting and can inject a bit of your own personality or that of anyone else in the household. You can incorporate color in a number of ways, whether it’s through indoor plants or soft furnishings. If you want to do something big, then you can always consider adding paint or wallpaper depending on your preference. Either way, colour can certainly make a big difference to the space you’re in.
During big changes, I have repainted rooms and added feature walls of lovely wallpaper. I then follow with soft furnishings and ornaments to boost the rest of the space throughout the year and many to come when I fancy a change!
Rearrange the space
Rearranging furniture is an opportunity to transform a room for free. Not having to spend anymore is ideal for those who don’t have the budget or have a limited one when it comes to doing work on the home. You might want to consider rearranging one room at a time so that you can spend some quality time on finding what works and what doesn’t work in the space. Experiment with the bigger furniture first and then move onto the smaller pieces.
After rearranging bigger furnitures we then decided to look into foot stalls and pouffes. We decided on two emerald green foot stalls with gold legs from Amazon. They make a huge difference and really spruce up the room. They are great for extra seating, a place to put your feet up and also include storage which is awesome for decluttering!
Introduce the right lighting
The right lighting can certainly be a game-changer when it comes to setting the atmosphere of the room. Think about the ways in which you could introduce lighting and what types of fixtures will work best for that space in particular. Make the most of any natural light that you have coming into the space and opt for warmer lights when it comes to artificial lighting as opposed to anything too harsh.
We went for the warm vintage kind of bulb with an industrial style lamp and we love it! I even got a little blue desk lamp and It makes all the difference.
