Earlyish nights and feeling mentally awake call for a bit of reading πŸ“š I'm loving having @AmazonKindle on my phone. My current go to read on my phone is 'Under one roof' by Ali Hazelwood 😍

Autumn essentials | #BlogtoberWithBoa Day 10

10th October 2020 Be first to comment

So it is day 10 of #BlogtoberWithBoa – How has it gone this quick??Β

Since it’s a cold month where we crave cosiness I Β thought I’d gather up a list of Autumn essentials to fill you with joy and get you thinking about what you may need for this gorgeous crisp and cosy season!

Hearty vegetables and meal ingredients

I think most of us get our soup heads on during Autumn since it’s the time it starts to get colder and darker and we start transitioning into warmer more heartier meals. There is something magical about a homemade hearty vegetable soup that just fills my soul with happiness on a cold crisp Autumn day!

I love experimenting with different herbs, spices, veg and other ingredients in soups. We also have a slow cooker so I will definitely be getting use out of it during these cold seasons. Casseroles, soups and curries are on the menu! If you’re into it I definitely suggest getting in some different squash as they are the best soup ingredients for creamy, thick and rich soups.

Pumpkins

I don’t think it would be October or Autumn without pumpkins.. Am I right? They literally make the season what it is. I definitely suggest keeping a top up of pumpkins for this season for decoration, carving and using with candles and of course using them in cooking dishes like soup, pie and any experimental dishes too! I know pumpkin and squash isn’t for everyone in food but if you’re like me and you love a good pumpkin soup, then they are definitely essential!

Autumnal fashion

Although it isn’t necessarily essential, I’d say it’s always a lovely thing when you feel you are dressed for the season. I have my wardrobe transitioned from Summer to Autumn now and it includes jumpers, long sleeves tees, Halloween themed dressed and tops and then dresses, coats and tops that are Autumnal coloured. It won’t matter to some but being a blogger and having a general love of the Autumn colours, I like to have my Autumn wardrobe at the ready.

Cosy thick jumpers

Since the weather is changing and it’s started to get colder with an icy breeze, it’s time to get out those cosy jumpers of different thickness’ for different days! I have a big stash of jumpers, some thin and some chunky so that I can pick and choose as and when I need the different types. I am always in the mood for jumpers but because of my weird body I find it hard to get cool and am always warm, hence why I love Autumn as I can finally get cosy and enjoy wrapping up in a blanket.

Horror movies

If you’re not a fan of horror then you can skip this bit!

Although I watch horror films throughout the year, I love watching them during Autumn as they feel all that bit better being so fitted to the season and Halloween. The darker evenings and colder weather makes me want to just sit in the warm with fairy lights on, candles lit and a spooky film on whilst snuggled up with my partner. It is the perfect evening in my opinion. It does become harder with children in the house to get time to watch horrors but I am committed to finding time!

If you are a fan of horrors and spooky films I recommend Netflix and Prime video! We use both and love them. We use Disney plus for the less spooky and more child friend Halloween films.

Cosy socks

I think at some point in our lives most of us will own a pair of cosy fluffy socks. If not then fair enough but I love buying cosy socks during the colder seasons. They are the perfect Autumn accessory for those cosy nights in and those cold days out. Rock your cosy socks alone with some warm house clothes or with your favourite pair of boots to keep your feet nice and warm.Β

Warm and cosy beanie hats

The same as socks I’m sure we all have at least one hat! I actually have been given the nickname ‘Beanie’ because of how many beanie hats I own and wear. I’ve always loved hats, so much that they have become part of my identity! I went on a campaign photoshoot for ‘Fight For All The Feels’ and since it was raining I was wearing my yellow fluffy beanie hat and my tartan scarf on the way there. When I got into the main room with the photographer and I told him I’d get myself sorted and take my hat off, he actually asked me to keep it on because he loved the colours and how it looked! It was such a lovely compliment and I actually kept the hat and scarf on the entire shoot whether we were inside or out!Β

So when it gets cold, get yourself a few cosy beanie hats to keep your head and ears warm during the cold icy days.

Fun video and board games

If you’re a fan of games and you are still under lockdown restrictions you may already have a ton of games stocked up ready but if not then It is a great idea to do so. For those cosy nights in where you want a change pop a game out with your favourite people, person or just your household and have a games night with some candles on, good food and some lovely drink. It’s a lovely season to spend the night in lifting your spirit and growing your smile!

Coffee, tea and hot chocolate

If you’re a fan of warm drinks then make sure through the colder seasons starting with Autumn, you are stocked up on tea, coffee and hot chocolate. I love my morning coffee, afternoon cup of tea and evening hot chocolate with whipped cream and chocolate sprinkles. In my opinion warm drinks are essential for this season so I’m keeping on top of my stash!

Fairy lights

I adore fairy lights and love the idea of using them around the house to provide a warm glow to each room whilst giving off a lovely cosy atmosphere. They are mulit-purposeful, fun, beautiful and can transform any room. Always use them safely and follow instructions to get the best use!

Cocktail ingredients

Whether you have a cheeky tipple every so often or you prefer non alcoholic drinks, cocktails are an awesome fun way of spending an evening. There are so many cocktail and mocktail recipes out there that suit those who drink alcohol and those who don’t, including children! Autumn and Halloween is a great time you get your thinking caps on and make some fun drinks for everyone to enjoy so top up on some ingredients!

New books to read

If you’re a reader then this season is the perfect one to get cosy with a blanket, drink of your choice and quiet room to really dive into your favourite book. There is nothing like sitting inside in the warm as it’s dull outside and feeling a sense of cosy, warmth and belonging whilst losing yourself in a good Horror book! If horror isn’t your choice then whichever you prefer, but I find a Horror is perfect for Autumn and Halloween. If you need some inspiration, heres what I’m currently reading!

Autumnal flavoured syrups

All the way through the year our favourite coffee shops have tons of flavours and just like them I try to keep stocked up on my own so I can make a normal coffee into a gorgeous treat each morning! Plus extra goodness in my hot chocolate hehe. But when Autumn comes around our coffee shops start stocking up on spiced syrups like gingerbread, pumpkin spice, cinnamon, almond and many more! But with the the world is going through this current pandemic, our coffee shop trips may be limited, especially throughout the seasons we celebrate so why not bring the flavours of Autumn to your home? Maybe order online from Amazon or head to your local shops and gather up some delicious flavoured syrups!

Faux Autumn leaves for decor and crafts

Since I’m Autumn mad, I keep stocked up on flatlay materials such as faux sunflowers, pinecones, acorns, garlands, faux flowers and most of all faux Autumn leaves. They are the perfect way to keep Autumn all year round so when it finally arrives I am ready and waiting to pop these leaves all around the house to transform it into an Autumn paradise! They are affordable, long lasting and you can use them anywhere for anything!

Thank you so much for reading! What are your Autumn essentials?

Stay wonderful!

Here is my unboxing of my first Pause subscription box in April!

April was all about reading and finding calm through reading. In order to embrace pausing though reading, this month included a task where we make Pompom book marks.

With green yarn it was lovely to follow the guide and find calm whilst making a little pompom bookmark.
