Everyone has to eat. That’s a basic fact of life. If you don’t fill your body with the calories and nutrients it needs, you will die. But just because eating is a life-or-death task, like breathing and drinking water, that doesn’t mean it has to be boring.
For many people, preparing food is hugely enjoyable. They love filling their home with delicious ingredients and shiny new cooking utensils and preparing sumptuous feasts for their family and friends. They are never more at home than when they’re whirling round the kitchen in a flour-covered apron serving cocktails and canapes.
But for others, cooking is a monotonous chore that you have to get through. You need to put food on the table to feed yourself and your family, but it’s just so time-consuming. Who can be bothered to roll out pastry or baste a chicken when it’s much easier to order a takeaway or go out to a restaurant?
But knowing how to cook is one of the most valuable life skills you can have, as it allows you to eat delicious food healthily and cheaply. If preparing food fills you with boredom, there are ways you can make it more exciting and fun. Break out of your mealtime routine and add a little more flavor into your dinner times with these four tips.
Have themed dinners
If your evening meal is becoming routine, there’s no wonder you don’t enjoy preparing it. Serving the same food over and over again is not a recipe for excitement. Make dinner more fun by turning each meal into an event. Have a themed evening once a week that the whole family can look forward to. For example, you could throw a Mexican night complete with tacos, fajitas, nachos, and unlimited margaritas for the adults.
Cook your favourite meals
Everyone has a favorite meal. The one you will always order if you see it on the menu and causes your mouth to water whenever you think about it. So rather than cooking up the same uninteresting meals each night, why not try and recreate your favorite dishes? Whether it’s chicken enchiladas or pumpkin ravioli drizzled with truffle flavored olive oil, you will appreciate the cooking process a lot more when you know the pleasure that awaits you.
Change up your kitchen
If your kitchen is messy and bland, it’s not surprising you don’t feel at home there. So why not make it into your happy place. Make an effort to keep your cooking area as neat and organized as possible, and throw in some decor that lifts your mood. This could be your favorite artwork, some greenery, or photos of your family. We are products of our environment, so a pleasant kitchen will inspire you to want to be a better chef.
Cook together
Cooking doesn’t ave to be a solitary task. It is much for fun when you make it a social activity. Get your children, your partner, or your housemates involved with the cooking responsibilities. Not only will you have a better time making dinner, getting more hands stuck in will make it a lot quicker too!
I hope this post helps you find more joy in cooking.
Stay wonderful!
